Conference at Axelborg on Renewable Energy on land

10/10/2023

On Monday, October 9, 2023, the Danish Agriculture and Food Council held a Conference at Axelbog in the Alliance for Renewable Energy on Land.

The participants were companies (including Viking Wind), interest organizations and policymakers who came together to discuss, share and shape the ideas for Denmark's future wind and solar energy landscape.

The conference's main topic was how to secure more renewable energy on land and ensure rapid deployment while securing the support of municipalities, developers and citizens.

Among the speakers was the Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities, Lars Aagard, who gave an update on the government's ambitions and plans for renewable energy on land. Afterwards, there was also time to ask the minister questions.

Henrik Andersen, CEO of Vestas gave a presentation on the topic: Give the industry wind and sun in the back and expand our sector so that we are ready for the large investments that need to be made in the future . One of the major obstacles is that the case processing time for getting a wind turbine project approved is 5-7 years, which means that the green transition with contributions from wind and solar energy comes to a complete standstill. For example, in 2023, only 11 large onshore wind turbines will be installed. This means that the government's 2030 climate goals will be more than difficult to achieve.

Another important topic at the conference was: Are we ready together with the municipalities and how do we get the population on board? Mayors from several municipalities said that they would love to be involved in more wind and solar energy. However, a major problem with achieving this is that the infrastructure as it is at the moment simply cannot keep up without further expansion and improvement.

For the municipalities, it is also a high priority that the power generated from renewable energy will be used locally and help create more local jobs

There was also a status on the NEKST working group More solar and wind on land.
The NEKST group is the national energy crisis task force set up by the government to accelerate Denmark's green transition.

The conference was rounded off with a networking lunch where there was ample opportunity to meet and interact with peers.
