Less ownership, more power

19/5/2016

HSWind has undergone a major transformation over the past six months. This has meant a change in ownership, more power in the form of capital and a keen eye on the world. The transformation has resulted in the prospect of an exciting future for Viking small wind turbines.

Back in 2009, HSWind started with its first small wind turbine, the Viking 25kW. The wind turbine was type-approved 3 years later and was an instant success. This led to the company expanding its shareholder base in 2013 and hiring a number of experienced employees from the wind turbine industry. These measures, along with an increased capital base, put the wind in the turbines' sails.

Today, HSWind has two more small wind turbines in its range. This rapid development places new and greater demands on the company in terms of sales and further development of turbines. This has resulted in a reduced ownership from 4 to 2, allowing the company to move more smoothly in the future.

CEO Ulrich Høgenhaven and a major investor from Southern Jutland, the current majority shareholder, are now the owners of HSWind. And the restructuring has strengthened the company's equity by converting loans into share capital and launched new and exciting initiatives.

Focus on exports

"The biggest change the change in ownership has brought is our shift in focus. We have always focused on giving Danish smalls their own independent energy sources. And that will still be a goal for HSWind. But the Danish government's priorities have shifted, and we have therefore decided to focus more on export opportunities," says CEO Ulrich Høgenhaven.

HSWind started exporting their small wind turbines already in 2013. This resulted in a development project with three turbines to Argentina, in addition to turbines to France, as well as an agreement with a French distributor.

With the new initiatives, more countries and more resellers have come into play. HSWind now also has active resellers in Iceland and Germany, and there is dialog about cooperation with similar resellers in Italy, Japan, Turkey and through them countries in the Middle East and some East African countries.

With the injection of new capital and an already established contact to foreign dealers, HSWind is looking to the future. And it's not to be denied that exciting negotiations are already underway.
