Viking Wind participates in exciting WWEA podcast
13/6/2024
Ulrich Høgenhaven, CEO of Viking Wind has recently participated in an exciting podcast about the prospects for small wind turbines. The World Wind Energy Association (WWEA) hosted the podcast with General Secretary Stefan Gsänger as interviewer.
The podcast had its main focus on the market for small wind turbines and the barriers and advantages of said.
Among the main topics were new market potentials for Viking Wind, which, with a stagnant Danish domestic market, has to look for new market areas globally. In particular, exports to Japan are currently in focus, but the reconstruction of Ukraine and Asia are also exciting potential markets to look into. Furthermore, some European countries may also have export potential Ulrich Høgenhaven says.
However, penetrating new market areas is expensive, as each country usually has its own rules for legalizing small wind turbines, and it is both lengthy and expensive to go through the process for a small company such as Viking Wind.
Therefore, future uniformity in the certification of small wind turbines on the global market would be a great advantage.
Another barrier in the market for small wind turbines is that over the last 15 years, the cost of solar cells has fallen quite a bit, whereas the cost of small wind turbines has not experienced the same price drop.
That gives solar cells a competitive advantage on the price parameter in the market for sustainable energy.
However, CEO Ulrich Høgenhaven does not necessarily see solar cells as a big threat to Viking Wind's turbines in the market for sustainable energy, he prefers to see them as a partner, as they can be integrated into Viking Wind's hybrid solutions with solar, wind and battery combined. That gives unprecedented possibilities for stable energy solutions in rural areas with little or no electricity supply.
The advanced buying process of small wind turbines and which aspects are important to consider when choosing a small wind turbine were also on the agenda in the podcast. The size and return of the wind turbine are cardinal points when considering investment in a wind turbine, and the price aspect is always an important factor. But The quality of the turbines and the safety aspects are also important parameters to consider in the buying process.
The podcast also impinges upon how Viking Wind advises potential new customers and dealers.
Finally, the future perspectives for the industry were discussed, which are considered vaguely optimistic.
